Don't victimise Stella Oduah, Jonathan- NANS
The on-going drama trailing the contracted
purchase of armoured vehicles, currently rocking the Nigerian Aviation
ministry, especially the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, which has got the
whole nation's attention, has been described by the executives of the Nigerians
Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS), as an overblown issue
which need not be over flogged, especially when she (Stella Oduah) had
performed her national assignments gallantly.
During a chat with the NANS
President, Yinka Gbadebo and the National Secretary, Comrade Daniel Momodu
yesterday, they expressed dissatisfaction with the way the general populace and
the media have been propagating the matter, stating that some salient issues
were left pending.
While emphasising that the panel set up by
President Goodluck Jonathan be allowed to analyse and ascertain whether there
was indeed foul play involved in the purchase, the NANS President, Yinka
Gbadebo, stressed that the virtues of and the continous aviation reforms by the
Minister of Aviation should be the focus. Gbadebo enjoined Nigerians to allow
the panel does their job, adding that the focus on the Minister may be
misplaced.
"We have heard that it was the NCCA that
purchased the vehicles for the expected diplomats and not for the sole use by
the Minister. If the car was for official use, why are we focusing on a
particular person? Did she sign the documents to authorize purchase? I believe
that she is being victimised for no cause.
It will be best if w all can just wait and
allow the panel allowed to do their job while also allowing the minister to
concentrate on her aviation reforms agenda because she has really done a lot
for the industry, I believe that is the right step to take", said
Gbadebo.
Also speaking further on the matter, the National Secretary of NANS, Daniel Momodu said,
Also speaking further on the matter, the National Secretary of NANS, Daniel Momodu said,
"Everybody in the opposition are
capitalising on all available propaganda to discredit the government of
President Goodluck Jonathan. NANS is not in supporting of any act of corruption
but we enjoin people to always be objective while addressing issues and people
should deal with facts and not personalities.
"We want to advise our politicians to avoid
comments that could derail the unity of this country; patriotism should be our
watch word".
