Man Arrested For Attacking DPO
An armed robbery
suspect has been arrested by the Tolu Police Division, Ajegunle, Lagos,
for allegedly attacking the station’s Divisional Police Officer, CSP
Godwin Eze.
The suspect, who had refused to give his name, was said to have been arrested last Saturday when a combined team of policemen from Tolu and Bariga divisions stormed his home on Adetoke Street, Bariga, at 6am.
A police source said that the suspect along with several others suspected to be naval ratings, attacked Eze and attempted to rob him last Wednesday.
He said, “A group of men, had ambushed Eze last week and tried to disarm him of his service pistol. Unfortunately, they did not succeed. As they were speeding away, Eze was able to get the number plate of the vehicle.
“It was through this number plate that Eze traced the owner of the vehicle to his house in Bariga with the help of the motor licensing office.
“The suspect was arrested with some members of his family; they are still being interrogated by the police.”
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Umaru Manko, confirmed that an arrest was made, but declined to comment when our correspondent sought to know whether some of the suspects were truly naval personnel.
Manko said, “The suspect currently in custody had attacked Eze last week. He was traced to his home through his number plate and arrested.
“We arrested the culprit only; no member our his family is in our custody.”
The Navy Public Relations Officer, Lt. Com. Jerry Omodara, said, “From information available to me, I can tell you that no naval personnel was involved in attacking any DPO or robbing him.”
